What to Expect

Osteopathy is a safe and effective diagnostic treatment and approach to pain relief and a wide range of painful disorders.

Osteopathy helps to restore the function of the musculo-skeletal system (joints, muscles and ligaments) relieving pain, discomfort and immobility.

Osteopathy is widely used throughout the world and recognised as one of the most highly effective complementary therapies, with a vast expanding base of scientifically validated research.

Treatment involves gentle, manual techniques for pain relief, reducing swelling and improving mobility. Often, this involves manipulation which can result in an audible ‘pop’ which is simply the sound of gas bubbles popping in the fluid of the joints.

When our muscles, ligaments, nerves or joints get damaged the balance of our body is disturbed and this can cause a number of apparently unrelated effects.

Osteopathy gets straight to the root of the problem, helping to free you from discomfort so that you can get on with your life. Effective, Rapid, Pain Relief.

Osteopathy is suitable for almost anyone. You might be surprised at just how many common symptoms we can help with.

Osteopathic treatment consists of hands on gentle manipulation and stretching of the muscles, ligaments and joints, allowing muscle tension to be released and blood and nerve supply to the tissues enhanced. Advice on posture and exercise may be provided to aid recovery, promote health and prevent reoccurrence of symptoms.

Your first consultation with the osteopath will focus on taking a detailed medical case history, performing a full biochemical assessment and formulating a diagnosis of your complaint. If the Osteopath has any concerns about your condition, they refer you to the appropriate practitioner. If treatment is indicated a treatment plan will be discussed with you. Some conditions may require one treatment, while others have a more long-term prognosis.

The osteopath will ask about any medication you are taking or the results of previous scans or investigations. It is therefore helpful to bring a list of medication and copies of scans or medical reports.

As it is important to fully assess mechanically, you may be asked to undress to your underwear. Please do bring shorts loose trousers or a vest, if you would prefer.

Osteopathy is a hands on treatment designed to make changes to body tissues. Some people may feel some temporary soreness afterwards.
